In a marathon, I am not sure which mile is worse. Mile one, when the runner realizes the undertaking ahead. Mile 17, when the runner realizes they have just under a half marathon still to complete. Or Mile 23, when the runner can’t imagine taking one more step. May 19th is just over 3 weeks away. We have the opportunity to finish strong. We can do it! The weeks are packed with exciting events. Tonight, our art students showcase their talent. May 1st, we begin MAP testing. Each grade will complete their tests in the morning of an assigned day. Class schedules will not be interrupted for the other grade levels. Friday, May 5th, our 8th graders celebrate the end of their middle school journey. Our choir and bands perform on Tuesday, May 9th. On Monday, May 15th our 8th graders provide leadership and support to Mrs. Bishop during the elementary field day celebration.
While all of these activities remind us that summer is around the corner, school continues. Homework somehow finds its way on to Google Classroom. Unit tests provide closure to yet another school year. The hallways buzz with excitement. Each morning as I greet 7th-grade students at their lockers, they remind me how close they are to being 8th graders.
Encourage your students to finish strong. In last week’s Principal’s Praises, I challenged the students to consider the following quote by Billy Sunday, “Stopping at third adds no more to the score than striking out. It doesn’t matter how you start if you fail to finish.” As I pass them in the hall, I remind them to finish strong.
Honored to Serve You All,
